Poison ivy vine surrounding tall trees in a forest.

A non-native evergreen climbing vine, English ivy is indicative of past nearby human habitation. Note that although the vine climbs up these trees from the ground, there are very few leaves until about six feet up. Possible explanations for this phenomenon include grazing by whitetail deer or shading by the many small trees in this area.
